Lawrence Fine Art

Name : Leon Leigh
Biography :

British-born Leon Leigh began his career in the arts at a very early age. Mathematically and mechanically incliined, he designed custom furniture for his family's business.

Immigrating to America in 1986, he open a studio in Culver City, CA. His flair for design and spontaneity of thought has created works ranging from pirivate commissions to commerical installtions.

Infinitely impassioned by the actio of flame to metal, Leigh uses no foundry, preferring instead to forge each of his pieces using the naked flame. Solid steel rods of differing diameters are used to structure basic skeletal forms. Layers are heated to a molten ball and slowly fused giving substance and shape to each sculpture. As rod after rod is liquefied and molded, each individual work is brought to its unique completion.
