Biography :

John von Wicht (1888-1970) was a German-American artist whose work was initially influenced by European Cubism and Expressionism. He later moved to create more clearly abstract expressionist works. During WWII, he worked as a barge captain in New York Harbor supplying troop transports. After the war, harbor themes, such as in this painting, would appear in his abstractions.
