Name : Marguerite Moore Hawkins
Biography :

1881-1956

The Emerald, Greenport Harbor

Hawkins was a member of a group of mostly women artists whose mentor was Caroline Bell and which today are called "The Peconic Bay Impressionists."  See Terry Wallace:  "Caroline Bell and the Peconic Bay Impressionists."  Hawkins painted with Bell and traveled with her frequently to Gloucester where she also painted and studied with Thieme and Gruppe.  Hawkins participated in numerous exhibitions on Long Island and at Gloucester.  Her work is only infrequently seen and this is a fine example of her best.
